MIM-KYIV HOSTS THE FIRST PUBLIC DISCUSSION ON BIOMETHANE
21 December 2021
MIM-Kyiv hosted the first conference on the use of biogas “Bio Gas Production Zoning and Connecting to Gas Distribution Network Assessment”. Georgii Geletukha chairman of the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine said that it was high time to make the results of the numerous experts’ discussion public. He also said that he hoped 2022 would be the first year of using biogas in the national gas distribution network.
Iryna Tykhomyrova, MIM-Kyiv’s president said in her welcome:
- Welcome to all of you! Whether you are from the private or public sector you are doing your best to transform our country. It is very important for us as we are helping the business to lead and succeed in the country’s transformation.
This year, the Verkhovna Rada (the Parliament) adopted the law on biogas. Andrii Zhupanyn, the deputy of the Rada (MP) and the author of the law explained why this law is important for the experts and average citizens as well. He also said:
- I am happy to be a part of the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine effort. We have worked together during the adoption proceedings in the Rada. We managed to do that fast and hope for equally speedy implementation.
Kyrylo Tomliak, Program Manager of the EBRD/GEF Programme Ukraine: Sustainable Bioenergy Value Chain Innovations pointed out that the EBRD was interested in technologies development and readily participated in the funding of such projects.
Oleksandr Dombrovsky, the president of the Global100RE Ukraine paid attention to the role of biogas as energy security drivers:
- We all know about the current price surge in the energy markets, especially gas markets. Such a dramatic increase makes the development and implementation of the national energy policy extremely difficult. Thus, biogas is a key driver of national energy security and independence. We have experience in biogas production. We are switching to biomethane. This seminar is dedicated to finding ways to use biomethane in the existing gas distribution system and thus substitute imported gas that drains our budget.
