IRYNA ZOLOTAREVYCH SPEAKS ABOUT BUSINESS SCALING, TEAMS, AND PERSONALITIES DURING WARTIME

17 June 2022

Accepting dysfunctionality of the pre-war scenarios and abundance of the new opportunities is among Iryna Zolotarevych, coach and consultant, advisor to the prime ministers of Ukraine, and MIM-Kyiv professor recommendations provided during the MIM Toolbox episode.

Will life (n)ever be the same?

“Everything will settle and be as it used to be,” is one of the most popular chants nowadays. However, the post- and pre-war societies are very different. Our economy, policy, and communities are changing rapidly. That’s why without understanding the extent of the change laying the foundation for the new life is doomed. Old scenarios do not work anymore if not for inertia.

On expectations

My husband and I once contributed to a charity project for children from orphanages Most of them were expecting to be taken care of and being given things without any special efforts. Many entrepreneurs whose businesses are affected by the war have similar expectations. They seem to expect donors, other countries, loyal customers, etc. to fight for their businesses. Each businessperson should tread carefully on the thin line between the acceptance of help and expecting to be cared for. Assistance or loyalty is not forever. Relying on themselves is a better policy.

On rat races

Entrepreneurs are often complaining that they fail to break through regardless of all their efforts.   They feel like they are part of the rat race. If it is so, then the old methods do not work anymore. When you stick to the once-working routines you lag behind. You need new solutions, customers, partners, etc. You cannot reach new targets with obsolete ways of doing things.

On our emotions

Our emotions are impacted by our mental focus and our ability to control the focus. We’d better concentrate on what we want in the future rather than thinking about good old times. Looking to the rare window all the time does not help us. But concentrating on the distant future can.

On the importance of our beliefs

People often say that they are not strong enough to decide. However, it is often the decision that makes you strong and energetic. We have never had so many options as we are having now. On the other hand, we have no idea about the potential consequences. That’s why we need to be ready for abrupt changes and fast actions. Our beliefs are critical, our energy is the new currency. Stick to confidence and those who you are ready to follow.
