ENERGY CLUB RENEWS ITS FACE-TO-FACE MEETINGS

15 July 2021

Energy Club had its first face-to-face meeting. The participants were discussing the current situation in the energy market and the potential solutions to the existing problems. Traders’ impact on pricing and renewable energy was among the most pending ones.

Oleksandr Svetelik, former minister of energy and coal mining industry and the president of the Ukrainian NC CIGRE mentioned that Ukraine is bridging the 20 year-long gaps between its energy sector and the European one. This transition period from the governmental monopoly to the free market requires industry expertise as well as an understanding of the domestic market. “Our energy market has been working for two years already. It requires a lot of changes. We need the experience of our analysts and experts. The main ambition of the Expert and Analytical Council of the Ukrainian NC CIGRE and the Energy Club goes beyond mere replicating the European experience. We need to adapt it to our reality. The most widespread mistake is applying the EU regulations after translating them without adjusting them for our level of energy market development. Accommodating European experience is our main task.”

The discussion will be followed by the development of the package of recommendations for the government. Experts will continue discussing the most pending issues of the sector development at the MIM-Kyiv Energy Club meetings.
