MIM-KYIV SUPPORTS WOMEN AMBITIONS

07 July 2021

Hanna Mikulytska, MIM-Kyiv’s visiting professor, co-founder, and CEO of the FIN ADVICE spoke at the STEM IS FEM, the program targeting teenaged girls. She discussed how to climb up the career ladder.

“I worked for 25 years in the same bank. They say that women prefer horizontal careers because they are less ambitious, more modest, and reserved. As long as we remain modest men who are the majority on top will talk about women’s modesty,” Hanna said during the meeting.

When being interviewed, women mostly tell what they can do for sure whereas men have no reservation and sell themselves regardless of their real capabilities.

Hanna also discussed financial security. In particular, she talked about identifying the assets that generate good returns and be satisfying without compromising social and environmental safety.

“Do not forget about yourselves because you can 100% rely on yourselves only. If you are in your right senses you are not alone. Your friends may be far away with their phones switched off. That’s why you need to understand yourselves, what you want and what you don’t want,” Hanna was sharing her experience.

Hanna paid special attention that speaking English is critical for careers. For working globally knowledge of Chinese or Spanish or other languages popular in the business world is crucial.

STEM is FEM project supports school girls' ambitions when they are choosing universities and future professions. The project founders believe that due to the project young girls better understand their educational and career options and employers have a more able talent pool, and the domestic technology sector suffers less brain drain.
