HUMAN RESPONSIBILITY DAY: BOHDAN HARYLYSHYN TAUGHT US THAT EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE
19 October 2021
Ukrainian Reposnsibility Day is the new holiday in Ukraine. It was established on October 19, 2021, on the birthday of Bohdan Hawrylyshyn, the author of the Declaration of Human Responsibilities. Iryna Tykhomyrova, MIM’s president shared her memories of a man inseparable from modern Ukraine.
“Bohdan Harylyshyn helped us to believe that everything was possible. Everyone who knew him felt that. Once when we had a conversation he said that achieving was easy for him. Because of Leonida Petrivna, his wife who had always supported him by saying “Danko, you can do anything. You’ll make it!” I am sure that living, working, and achieving is easy when you have a person who has trust in you and truly believes that you are the best. He did accomplish whatever he tried to do.
Derek Abel, the then director of IMEDE, the Swiss business that merged with IMI-Geneva to establish the IMD confirmed his words. He said that Hawrylyshyn was a successful researcher, political and business consultant, scientist, and scientific administrator but “he had Lenny!” meaning Leonida Petrivna. It was very moving.
Without a doubt, Bohdan Hawrylyshyn made history and was recognized by the business community. For me, he is an example of true family happiness. His wonderful Lenny and excellent children share his ideals and follow in his footsteps. Hawrylyshyn Family Foundation builds on his legacy.
